Town Council holds Emergency Meeting to address Public Works Director medical absence

ESTO, FL – March 4, 2024 – In response to the recent emergency medical issue affecting our Public Works Director, Billy Martin, which requires an extended period of absence, the Esto Town Council convened for an emergency meeting on Sunday, March 3, 2024. The meeting aimed to address the operational challenges posed by the Public Works Director’s absence and devise a plan to support both Martin and the town’s operations during this time.

KEY DECISIONS

Support for the Public Works Director: The Town Council unanimously agreed to provide ongoing support to the Public Works Director during his recovery period. After exhausting sick leave and paid time off (PTO), Martin will receive a weekly payment of $250 to ensure continued financial stability while on leave.

Emphasis on Full Recovery: The Council emphasized the importance of Martin prioritizing his health and achieving a full recovery before considering a return to work. Martin’s well-being is a major concern of the town council.

Volunteer Commitment by Town Council Members: Town Council members Josh Davenport and Maxie Yates volunteered their time and expertise to support the town during the Public Works Director’s absence. Their commitment reflects the spirit of community within the Town Council and will contribute to maintaining essential services during this period.

Creation of New Administrative/City Manager Position: Recognizing the need for contingency planning in the event of future emergencies or prolonged absences of key personnel, the Town Council voted to pursue the creation of a new administrative or city manager position. This strategic move aims to ensure smoother town operations and mitigate the need for emergency meetings in similar circumstances.
