Frequently Asked Questions
How can I apply for a new water connection?
To apply for a new water connection, new construction or never before serviced by Esto Water Works, please contact the Public Works Department at Esto Town Hall.
How can I tell if I have a leak?
Read our page on how to read your meter and check for leaks.
What is Cross -Connection Control / Backflow Prevention?
The purpose of Cross-Connection Control and Backflow Prevention is to protect the Town of Esto’s water system from contamination by waterborne diseases and harmful contaminants. Read our page on Cross-Connection Control for more information, and to see if your property is required to have a backflow valve.
I want to do construction and want to make sure I don’t damage any water lines.
If you are planning to dig where utilities such as electric, water, telephone, and natural gas lines are buried, Florida State law requires that you notify the affected utilities at least two days prior to excavating.
The utilities are required to locate their utilities for you within two (2) working days. This law aims at protecting you from possible serious injuries and from liability if your digging damages any underground utilities.
Sunshine 811 notifies utility companies to mark their underground facilities where you plan to dig. Call 8-1-1 or 800-432-4770 or submit a ticket online here.
What do I do if I’m under a Precautionary Boil Water Notice?
A precautionary boil water notice may be issued in the event of a water main break, a loss of power or water pressure, or another emergency that may create the opportunity for contaminants to enter the pipes. The precautionary boil water notice does not mean that the water is contaminated; however, if you receive one, Esto Water Works recommends – as a precaution – that you boil your tap water before consuming it. For more information, read this page.
Does the Town of Esto have any lead water lines?
No, the Town of Esto does not have any lead service lines.
On January 15, 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) that went into effect on December 16, 2021. The LCRR requires all community public water systems to create an inventory of all service lines. In compliance with federal and state regulations, we have completed a Lead Service Line Inventory, which confirmed that there are no lead pipes in our system.
If you have concerns about your plumbing or water quality, please contact the Esto Town Clerk for further assistance.
Why is my water cloudy or discolored?
Water may occasionally become discolored due to water main breaks, line flushing that causes a large amount of water to move through the system or problems at the Esto water wells and tanks. These problems may cause the water from your faucet to be cloudy or rust colored. Please do not be alarmed. The water is still safe to drink. The water merely contains sediments due to sudden changes in pressure in the system.
When the cause for the water problem is corrected, the sediments will be flushed from the city water lines. Do not wash clothes because the sediments may cause stains.
